God never closes a door without opening a window first.
As many of you know, VC Diggers Hunkey Tonk or better known as Dinero has been with us since he was young. We would like to share the story of how we got him.
Jana was blessed with a gelding that she purchased in 1998 from Kelly & Gene Jett of Scott City, KS. “Digger” was a barrel & pole horse as well as one of the best head horses in the country. He helped Jana learn the ropes of High School rodeo. In 2002, Digger had a heart attack. After taking him to Oklahoma State for an EKG, Jana & her family learned he had a short time to live. Devastated, Jana began searching for a “young horse bred like Digger.” She found Dinero, a ranch broke two-year-old from Digger’s breeders. They still had a sister to Digger- 20 years later! Dinero was by a son of Dual Pep named Hunkey Tonk- owned by Matt & Christine Lopez. When Jana picked him up in South Dakota in February of 2003, she thought he’d be a rope horse because he was too little to run barrels. Ha! Dinero must have not received that memo!
Dinero was a futurity horse in 2004- winning checks at the Speedhorse Silver Cup, Victory Farms & Sunflower Futurities. He also filled Jana’s WPRA permit- as a 4 year old. He was 6th in the Jr. Barrels at the AQHA World Show in 2004. Since then, he’s won money at numerous PRCA Rodeos, won 300+ horse jackpots & also made the Prairie Circuit Finals in 2010 and 2011. In 2008, he won the IFYR with Emily Miller aboard. Needless to say, he’s exceeded our expections of that little rope horse we bought. He’ll always have a place here with us and he’ll be in our hearts forever- he’s the angel that Digger left on earth. Thanks for the ride, Dinero! What a blessing you’ve been to our family and you have changed our lives forever!
